Customer-Based Brand Equity

Say the club's name to a stranger and watch what comes into their head. That is the club's brand. You can check it today, for nothing.

How it works

Brand equity is a gap: how many people would come if a nameless club sent the same invitation.

RecognitionI see the name and know I have heard of it.
RecallI produce the name myself when the category comes up. Harder, worth more.
Associations in memoryWhat comes to mind at the name — that is the image.
Favourable, strong, unique'They run events' is strong and not unique, so it separates you from nobody.
What people know about you has only two components — awareness and image — so the whole job is two or three associations nobody else in the faculty can claim.
What you do first

Stop twenty people by the coffee machine — ten members and ten non-members — and ask one thing: what three words come to mind when you hear our name. Write them down verbatim and do not argue. The gap between the two lists is your real image.
