Carroll’s pyramid of responsibility
"A responsible club" usually means one charity drive a year. There are actually four levels, and the bottom three decide more than the top one.
A club that cannot pay for the room will keep none of its promises — which is why economic responsibility sits at Carroll's foundation rather than off to one side.
- EconomicMoney for the room, the coffee and next year.
- LegalThe sponsor contract, sign-up data, music rights, the university's rules.
- EthicalThe reference you promised and nobody wrote. The law is silent; you are not.
- PhilanthropicVoluntary: an event open to the city, giving to others.
At a board meeting walk the four levels out loud, two minutes each: will the money last to the end of term and from where; is there a written agreement with the sponsor and where are the sign-up records; is there a promise to someone you have not kept; what the club did for anyone outside itself. Write one action against every vague answer.
